David Ruffley MP has welcomed announcements by British Telecom and the Secretary of State for Media, Culture, Sport and the Olympics, Jeremy Hunt on investment of broadband provision to homes and businesses in the Bury St Edmunds constituency.
David Ruffley said:
'BT announced on Tuesday that it would be developing twelve more exchange areas in Suffolk, one of which will directly benefit residents in Stowmarket. I am pleased to hear that BT expect the work to be completed by autumn next year.
On Wednesday 14th September, Jeremy Hunt, the Secretary of State for Media, Culture, Sport and the Olympics also approved the Suffolk Local Broadband Plan.
The makes Suffolk one of the first counties to extend superfast broadband beyond commercial development, particularly improving provision for rural households.
I am very pleased that the Government and BT have recognised the need to develop superfast broadband in Suffolk. The next challenge is to make sure the villages in Mid Suffolk and West Suffolk have the same quality of superfast broadband.
We must not be at a competitive disadvantage compared to Norfolk.'
