David Ruffley MP is proud to have put his name to a petition to rename Parliament's 'Clock Tower'- commonly known as 'Big Ben'- as 'Elizabeth Tower' in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
David Ruffley MP said: 'Many of my constituents have visited Parliament and gone on the incredibly popular 'Big Ben' tours.
Everyone is entranced by this icon of London and of Parliament and I believe it is only fitting to recognise the huge achievements of Queen Elizabeth II. The other main tower in Parliament is called 'Victoria Tower' in honour of Queen Victoria's reign and it seems right that we should ensure our current Queen should have the same honour.
Parliament's history is rich and varied and a change in the tower's name will let my constituents know that when they are visiting they are seeing an addition to the great story of Parliament.'
