Wednesday, 2 March, 2011

David Ruffley MP joined a host of other MPs on 2nd March in Parliament to discuss the importance of Talking Buses for the Blind.

Mr Ruffley says of the campaign, 'I am a very strong supporter of Guide Dogs for the blind and think that this campaign helps make bus travel accessible to all. I am hopeful that this campaign will be a nationwide success and that my constituency of Bury St Edmunds can be involved. The proposal to make audio announcements on all new buses a legal requirement needs discussing.'

David Ruffley also got the opportunity to meet Harvey a young 3 year old guide dog in training.

Mr Ruffley said 'I am a great supporter of blind charities in West Suffolk; I understand the impact a guide dog can have on blind and partially sighted people.

From personal experience of my grandfather being blind and deaf I understand the need for blind and partially sighted people to be able to live as independently as possible. The correct training of guide dogs is an essential part of this and I am pleased to see that in action today. '
