David Ruffley MP to join Eye Airfield protest: 12 Noon Sunday 27th February 2011
David Ruffley MP will be joining protesters over plans to build a waste incinerator on Eye Airfield. The proposals, part of Suffolk County Council's Waste Core Strategy, would see the demolition of current buildings on the site and the construction of a waste facility including a Energy from Waste plant building, waste reception hall, turbine hall, air cool condensers, bottom ash recovery facility, electricity substation, offices and visitors centre and parking and landscaping.
David Ruffley said of the protest: 'This is an issue which affects a great number of people in Mellis and beyond in my constituency of Bury St Edmunds. I have received a large volume of letter and emails from my constituents who are concerned about the proposals. They fear that traffic will increase, that the countryside will be blighted, that the air will be polluted and that it is not environmentally -friendly. Most of all there are real concerns that the consultation process has been flawed and that worries are not being addressed by the Council. The views of local residents must be heard and I am joining the protest to help ensure they are.'
