Commenting after laying a wreath at the Cenotaph on Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 14 November David Ruffley MP said:
'Remembrance Sunday and laying a wreath as the Member of Parliament for this historic constituency is, for me, the most moving day of the year. Since becoming the Member of Parliament in 1997 I have seen how the crowds have grown on Angel Hill to commemorate and remember those who have made sacrifices for their country. Men and women have sacrificed life and limb over many conflicts in many parts of the world. Their surviving families are in our thoughts, too.
The Armed Forces have a particular place in the heart of the people of my constituency because we are home to servicemen and servicewomen at RAF Honington and the Wattisham base. Most recently these bases have deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan and casualities have been suffered.
Remembrance Sunday is a time for members of the public to honour the sacrifice that is made to keep us safe and this nation secure. I think the turn out from the Bury St Edmunds public did our brave servicemen and servicewomen proud."
