David Ruffley MP to meet with Suffolk Police Federation about controversial police reform

On Friday 4th February 2011 David Ruffley MP will meet with Matt Gould, Chairman of the Joint Branch Board of the Suffolk Police Federation at their Stowmarket HQ.

David Ruffley said: 'As a former shadow Home Office minister I know just how important the work of the police is. I value the professionalism of Suffolk police officers and the contribution that they make to fighting crime and keeping our county safe. But the management of crime fighting activity can be improved. The Government's police reforms will shake up forces. In particular, the creation of the elected office of Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner to replace the Suffolk Police Authority is already proving controversial.

I also appreciate the concerns that some police officers have about their pensions. Tom Winsor, the former Rail Regulator, is currently leading a review of police terms and conditions, which will report in due course on any reforms to be made to ensure police terms and conditions are fair to and reasonable for both the taxpayer and police officers and staff. Again, this has caused many Suffolk police officers, past and present, to write to me. I am going to listen to their concerns.'
