David Ruffley MP to officially open new Interventional suite and Endoscopy unit at West Suffolk Hospital

On 17 June David Ruffley MP will unveil a plaque officially opening the new interventional x-ray suite at West Suffolk Hospital before touring the state-of-the-art endoscopy unit. The x-ray suite was completed earlier this year replacing ageing equipment with new technology which produces images of such a high quality that clinicians can carry out a much wider range of procedures using 'pinhole' techniques and without the need for traditional surgery.

Mr Ruffley said: 'I am so pleased to be back at West Suffolk Hospital opening another new unit. The £273,000 interventional x-ray suite and the £1.2m endoscopy unit bring huge benefits to patients coming into hospital by reducing the need for invasive surgery and increasing the range of procedures available. As a result, patients are benefiting from quicker recovery times and a significantly reduced length of stay. The new suite is also significantly larger than the unit it replaced and designed specifically for these treatments allowing the hospital to complete more procedures each year.

Every time I come to West Suffolk Hospital I am impressed by the dedication and hard work of the people who work here. I am delighted that they are also getting the equipment and infrastructure they need to ensure the highest possible standards of care for my constituents in Bury St Edmunds and further afield.'
