David Ruffley to visit St John's Centre in Bury St Edmunds

Tuesday, 25 October, 2005

David Ruffley MP will be visiting the St John's Centre in Bury St Edmunds at 1.00pm on Friday 28 October to view the building and plans for its future.

The centre currently has a number of uses including The Golden Days Club- a social club for the elderly, St John's Church Sunday School and the Just Traid Shop- open five days a week selling fair trade goods from developing countries.

The centre is currently in a poor state and requires urgent improvements including improved disabled access and parking, a renovation of catering facilities and the elimination of dry rot in parts of the building. So far £100,000 has been raised towards these and other improvements.

David said:

'Community buildings such as the St John's Centre are of great importance to the town.

'I have always been a supporter of Just Traid and the shop is well known throughout the county for the promotion of fair trade and the educational facilities it offers.

'I applaud the efforts of the St John's School Centre Trust in raising so much towards these valuable improvements. However, more money is still required and I will be doing all I can to support their bids for further funding. I look forward to viewing their plans for the future.'
