Ruffley to address the AGM of Needham Market Royal British Legion and calls for more respect for our armed forces

Tuesday, 6 November, 2007

David Ruffley MP will be addressing the AGM of the Needham Market and District branch of the Royal British Legion on Friday 9 November at 7.30pm.

David has taken this opportunity to speak of the level of pride the Americans have in their armed forces and has called for a little more of that spirit to be displayed by the British public.

On Saturday 10 November David will be laying a wreath at the Dunkirk Memorial in the Abbey Gardens.

On Sunday 11 November David will be taking part in the Remembrance Day parade in Stowmarket.

David said:

'I have the privilege of being Member of Parliament for our part of Suffolk which includes the Royal Anglian Regiment's Regimental Headquarters in Bury St Edmunds, the RAF Regiment and the 1st Royal Tank Regiment based at Honington, and 3 Army Air Corps at Wattisham. I keep in regular touch with them all. For example I will be getting a comprehensive briefing from at the Royal Anglian Regiment at their Headquarters in Bury St Edmunds on 16 November and I will be attending their parade on Angel Hill on 23 November.

'It will be an honour to address the AGM of the Needham Market and District branch of the Royal British Legion. These are men who have put their lives on the line for our country and they deserve our deepest respect.

'I know America quite well and if you are know to be a serving GI or GI veteran you are never expected to buy your own drink in your local bar.

'We need a little more of that sense of pride in our armed forces here in the UK- these men and women have put themselves in harm's way on behalf of us all. No praise is high enough for what they do in our name.'
