Monday, 10 November, 2008

David Ruffley MP visited King Edward VI School on Friday 7 November to witness first hand the impact of the Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative.

Sky Sports Living for Sport is an initiative organised by the Youth Sport Trust in partnership with BSkyB, which targets young people aged 11 to 16 who are at risk of opting out of school life, either through poor attendance or lack of confidence.

Now in its fifth year, the highly successful Sky Sports Living for Sport scheme has involved some 17,000 young people in over 600 schools across England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

David said:

'It is always a pleasure to visit King Edward VI school and meet with Geoff Barton.

'On Friday I was able to see at first hand the excellent impact of the Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative. Lead Sky Sports Living for Sport Teacher, Andrew McLellan, was able to explain the results of the programme and I am delighted that King Edward VI has been able to implement the scheme so successfully.

'This is an excellent project and I have every confidence that its accomplished implementation at King Edward VI will go some way to helping those at risk of opting out of education.'
