David Ruffley will attend the Crown Street Post Office public meeting on Friday, 16 May at 6.30pm at the Resource Centre in Crown Street, Stowmarket.
The meeting is organised by Stowmarket residents in partnership with Stowmarket Town Council and Mid Suffolk District Council. It will be attended by Gary Grange, Senior External Relations Manager at Post Office Ltd, and Laura Tarling, Post Office Network Development Manager. A representative of Postwatch will also be present.
Earlier that day at 10.45am David will visit Fornham All Saints Post Office to meet Lisa Whitehouse who assists her father, postmaster Trevor Whitehouse.
Then at 2.45pm David will visit Mr and Mrs Dann at Old Newton Post Office also proposed for closure.
At 4.00pm David will be at Gislingham Post Office which is due to be closed and replaced by an outreach service point. Here David will be presented by the dossier prepared by local residents who are campaigning to keep it open.
David Ruffley said: 'All these local communities where the post office is proposed for closure have worked tirelessly to prepare their case for keeping it open. In some cases this has revealed flaws in the information published by Post Office Ltd in their decision documents.
I have never known such determination by communities to hang on to their local services. It just shows how important post offices are and that we must fight to keep them open.
I will continue to support my local postmasters and post mistresses who do such an excellent job.'
