Ruffley calls for action for Suffolk's blind and visually impaired

Wednesday, 19 October, 2005

David Ruffley MP, a patron of the West Suffolk Voluntary Association of the Blind (WSVAB), has signed an Early Day Motion supporting the 'Re-think Rehab' campaign launched by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. The motion calls on the Government to be committed to finding and funding solutions to improve the rehabilitation services on offer for blind and partially sighted people.

The 'Re-think Rehab' campaign seeks to draw attention to the fact that despite the extra funding spent on health and social care in recent years, many blind and partially sighted people still face social exclusion due to under-investment in rehabilitation services. The campaign is aiming to raise awareness of this injustice and press the government to provide increased investment in rehabilitation services.

David said:

'As a patron of the West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind I have campaigned for a fair deal for visually impaired people throughout the region.

'This Early Day Motion rightly highlights the injustice faced by many blind and partially sighted people and calls on the Government to provide the investment required to allow them to lead the safe and independent life that most of us take for granted.

'I congratulate the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association on this campaign and I will continue to do all I can to support their work and the efforts of local organisations such as WSVAB.'
