Ruffley calls and chairs meeting on future of Stowmarket Football Club

Tuesday, 7 June, 2005

David Ruffley has called a meeting on Friday, 10 June to discuss the future of Stowmarket Football Club. The meeting will be held at the Club and attended by representatives of Mid Suffolk District Council, Stowmarket Football Club and the Stowmarket Church Charity.

The future of the Football Club on its present site is uncertain because they are not the owners of the land. Part of the land is owned by Stowmarket Church Charity and leased to the Club. The Club is therefore not able to go ahead and develop the site to improve their facilities as they wish to do. In addition, some of the land the Club would wish to use to develop the site is owned by Mid Suffolk District Council. Decisions on the future development of the land will not be possible until the Local Development Scheme has been finalised.

David said: 'While I am aware of the constraints all parties are working under, I am nonetheless keen to regain some momentum for this project. Stowmarket Football Club is a vital and popular resource for the town. I fully support the Club in their desire to build better facilities fit for the 21st century. I am committed to doing all I can to speed up the process.'
