Ruffley Calls For Urgent Action on A143 at Great Barton After Latest Crash

Monday, 5 January, 2004

David Ruffley was appalled to hear of the dreadful road accident that occurred on the A143 in Great Barton yesterday.

Below is the text of a letter he has written to Lucy Robinson, Director of Environment and Transport at Suffolk County Council calling for action.

A143 Great Barton

I was appalled to hear of the dreadful road accident in Great Barton as reported in the East Anglian Daily Times today on the front page.

The growth in traffic through this village is getting to ridiculous levels. I hear this from locally elected councillors as well as the Parish Council.

I also frequently use that stretch of road on the A143 on a weekly basis. My own personal experience confirms growing local anxiety in and around Great Barton.

Accordingly, I would like you to send me an urgent analysis of the options the County Council are studying to make this stretch of road in Great Barton safer than it is. We cannot have more accidents of the kind we have just seen. Action is needed otherwise the problem- and the accidents- will get worse.

I look forward to receiving a rapid reply.

With kind regards,

DAVID RUFFLEY MP
