Ruffley congratulates Town Centre Management on best ever Christmas lights

Tuesday, 24 November, 2009

David Ruffley MP has today written to Bury St Edmunds Town Centre Manager, Steve Peters, congratulating him on his efforts to deliver an improved Christmas lights display in the town.

For the first time ever, lights are up in Market Thoroughfare and Central Walk as well as on all the trees in The Traverse.

David said:

'I was delighted to see how good the town's Christmas lights look this year when they were switched on last Thursday. It is particularly pleasing that during this recession Bury St Edmunds is able to buck the trend and increase its Christmas display when towns elsewhere are seeing theirs cut back.

'The new lights in Central Walk and Market Thoroughfare, funded through Suffolk County Councillors' locality budgets, has ensured that the arc and the existing town centre have properly integrated Christmas displays.

'I have written to Steve Peters congratulating him on his efforts- this year's display is proof that councils do not always know best and that the business community has a great deal to offer in improving our town centre.'
