Ruffley consults Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Needham Market Pensioners

Monday, 28 February, 2005

At a time when the Conservative Opposition have published their plans to ease the burden of council tax on older people in the Bury St Edmunds constituency, David Ruffley MP is seeking the views of his constituents on pensions. David's CONSTITUENTS CAN GIVE HIM THEIR VIEWS ON THE PENSIONS ISSUE BY LOGGING ON TO HIS NEW INTERACTIVE WEBSITE WWW.TELLDAVIDRUFFLEY.COM.

UNDER THE RECENTLY ANNOUNCED PLANS, THE NEXT CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT WILL INTRODUCE AN AUTOMATIC 50% DISCOUNT ON COUNCIL TAX BILLS FOR THOSE AGED 65 AND OVER. THIS WILL BE WORTH UP TO A MAXIMUM OF £500 EXTRA PER ANNUM FOR PENSIONERS IN THE BURY ST EDMUNDS CONSTITUENCY.

David said:

'I am pleased that the Conservative Opposition in Parliament has been able to identify savings in Government spending to offer this vital discount to local pensioners. I realise that this is only one of a number of issues of concern to present and future pensioners. So I want to hear local people's views on the pensions system and how well they feel they are prepared for, or are coping with the pressures of retirement. I urge those on the internet to log on to this month's latest survey on telldavidruffley.com.'
