David Ruffley is continuing his campaign for a Onehouse school bus service.
The bus which took children from Onehouse, Harleston and Shelland to schools in Stowmarket was axed recently by First Eastern Counties following Suffolk County Council's termination of their contract with the bus company for children who are entitled to free school transport. This left many children with no bus to take them to school.
Suffolk County Council Education department have confirmed that they do not intend to renew the contract with First Eastern Counties so David has now written to Lucy Robinson, Director of Environment and Transport at the County Council, urging her to look into the matter to see what can be done to provide transport for his constituents.
David is also urging the Suffolk Education Department to expedite the appeals of parents against the decision not to provide free school transport on the basis that the route from Onehouse is totally unsuitable for children to walk to school.
David said: 'I continue to be concerned that my young constituents in Onehouse are being expected to walk along the road to Stowmarket which for over half a mile has no pavement and for one mile has no lighting. Children should be encouraged to walk where it is safe to do so but this road is simply not suitable. I urge the County Council to look at this again.'
