Ruffley defends Suffolk Third Sector in the House of Commons

Wednesday, 24 November, 2010

Mr Ruffley: 'On 13 November I chaired a summit meeting of the Chief Executives of fourteen Suffolk Third Sector bodies to discuss the Big Society and Suffolk County Council's radical New Strategic Direction programme to contract out local public services.
Third sector bodies in Suffolk are very keen to bid for these contracts. But they are concerned that unscrupulous large corporate prime contractors and a crude payment by results regime could fatally damage their cash flow.
Will the Minister please come to a meeting in Bury St Edmunds to reassure Suffolk's Third Sector?'

Mr Hurd acknowledged the concerns relayed by Mr Ruffley and said that he would be happy to meet personally with Suffolk Third Sector representatives to discuss their concerns.

David chaired the summit meeting on Saturday 13th November at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds with the Chief Executives of: Ipswich CVS, Bury St Edmunds CAB, Workwise, ISCRE, Suffolk Family Carers, Age UK, Suffolk Mind, Suffolk ACRE, Green Light Trust, Open Road Visions, Bridge Project, SAVO, Bury St Edmunds Volunteer Centre and West Suffolk Headway.
