Ruffley to demonstrate new video magnifier for the visually impaired to local supermarket managers

Tuesday, 6 June, 2006

David Ruffley MP, the Shadow Minister for Welfare Reform and Patron of West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind (WSVAB), will be demonstrating the latest portable video magnifier to local Waitrose Department Managers Simon Dickinson and Clive Pollington on Friday 9 June at 3.30pm.

The device can help those with limited eyesight read product packaging and the important small print found on labels.

While at the store David Ruffley will collect a cheque on behalf of WSVAB for £1000 donated by Waitrose to WSVAB's 70th Anniversary Appeal.

David said:

'This new type of handheld magnifier, with its own lighting and tiny video camera, is a fantastic addition to the range of equipment available from West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind.

'I am grateful to Waitrose not only for their incredibly generous donation but also for giving me the opportunity to demonstrate this magnifier, which can make a real difference to the way visually impaired people shop, to their management staff.'
