Ruffley to discuss future of St Edmundsbury with new Chief Executive

Friday, 24 October, 2008

David Ruffley MP will be meeting with the new Chief Executive of St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Geoff Rivers, on Friday 24th October.

Geoff was previously Chief Executive of South Norfolk District Council for the past nine years. He brings with him a strong track record of improving council services. South Norfolk achieved the Audit Commission's Comprehensive Performance Assessment top rating of excellent last year at the same time as St Edmundsbury

David and Geoff Rivers will then walk the site of the new Cattle Market development. After hearing concerns from the Bury Society, David is particularly keen to gain assurances on the level of arboreal features and the perceived lack of greenery planned on the development.

David said:

'I am delighted to have this opportunity to be able to sit down with Geoff Rivers and discuss the key issues facing St Edmundsbury.

'Despite the possible reorganisation of local government, St Edmundsbury Borough Council still has a strong role to play in shaping the future of our part of Suffolk. I am particularly eager to discuss what I regard as two of the most important challenges facing Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area- the provision of a 'park & ride' system in the town and the need for a long term vision on how the heritage of Bury St Edmunds should be preserved.

'Geoff has an exceptional track record in South Norfolk and I am sure he will bring a great deal to St Edmundsbury Borough Council. I look forward to working with him over the coming years to ensure that the Council does its utmost to meet the needs and expectations of local residents.'
