David Ruffley MP has today given a cautious welcome to new figures which suggest the safety record on the A14 in Suffolk is improving.
New figures, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, reveal that in 2008, the latest year for which figures are available, there were no deaths on the A14 in Suffolk- something that has not occurred in the last 10 years.
David said:
'I have been campaigning for safety improvements to the A14 since I was first elected in 1997 and I am pleased to see that much needed improvements to the road and the diligence of Suffolk Constabulary are finally having an impact on the road's safety record.
'A single death or injury on any road in our county is one too many and we should never be complacent about road safety but these figures do suggest we are moving in the right direction with improvements to the A14.
'I would like to reassure residents across the county that despite this apparent improvement to safety on the A14, I will not be letting up in my campaign to see further safety improvements to our county's major trunk road.'
