Ruffley highlights Adult Learners Week

Thursday, 18 May, 2006

David Ruffley MP has today highlighted the fantastic array of opportunities available to adult learners in Suffolk.

Adult Learners Week runs in Suffolk from 20 to 26 May as part of a national campaign. The week offers free introductory sessions for adults to try learning something new.

The week aims to encourage people who might be thinking about starting a new course in order to get new skills to get a job, or get a promotion, or aid their personal development through relaxation and healthy living.

After Adult Learners Week many participants go on to one or more of the courses organised by Suffolk County Council that run all year round.

All the courses are free and include, among others, Alternative Therapy, Reading and Writing Skills, Assertiveness and Confidence and Digital Photography.

David said:

'Adult Learners Week is a fantastic gateway for those thinking about acquiring a new skill to get back into the habit of learning and establishing if a particular course is right for them.

'Whether people want to acquire a new skill for a new job or simply develop their self confidence, these free courses take place across the county and many of the participants then go on to attend courses that run all year round.

'I would encourage anyone thinking of attending an adult learning course to take a look at the courses on offer on the Suffolk County Council website and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.'
