Ruffley Intervenes on Stowmarket Car Park Charge Crisis

Thursday, 17 June, 2004

David Ruffley today released a letter he received from the Chief Executive of Mid Suffolk District Council regarding car parking charges in Stowmarket.

David said: 'Following discussions I have had with Mid Suffolk District Council, this letter makes a commitment to look into the effect the new car park charges are having on Stowmarket's retailers. The Chief Executive says: 'The Council will be looking at ticket sales and income and also talking with traders to gain a factual account in order that it may make informed decisions in the future.' This is what I have been calling for as the town's MP since before Easter. If the MSDC consultation they have promised shows fewer visitors are coming to the town and that business is being damaged, I will expect the Council to review their car parking charge policy.'
