Ruffley investigates St Edmundsbury Healthy Homes Scheme

Thursday, 7 September, 2006

David Ruffley MP will be visiting the home of James and Rudy Pierce on Friday 8 September to see the vital security improvements that have been made possible by St Edmundsbury Borough Council's Healthy Homes Scheme.

David will be accompanied by St Edmundsbury Borough Council Leader, John Griffiths, and Portfolio Holder for Safe, Sustainable Communities, Jeremy Farthing.

Once at the Pierce residence David will have the opportunity to watch local locksmith, Colin Saville, install the much needed improvements.

The Healthy Homes Scheme provides grants covering 100 percent of the cost of installing better locks, door chains, window locks and shed locks and is available to residents receiving income or disability related benefits. Once a grant has been received, the Council's approved locksmith Colin Saville will visit the applicant's house and decide what extra security measures are needed to meet a minimum standard set out by the police.

David said:

'The Healthy Homes Scheme is a fantastic initiative and St Edmundsbury Borough Council should be congratulated on its implementation. The scheme will provide valuable peace of mind to residents in St Edmundsbury.

'I am grateful to Mr and Mrs Pierce for allowing me the opportunity to visit their home and see at first hand the security improvements made possible by this grant.

'As David Cameron's Shadow Welfare Minister I am delighted to back practical policies that give those who need extra support the help they require.'
