Ruffley launches 'OUT OF HOURS' GP consultation

Tuesday, 14 December, 2004

David Ruffley has today written to the most senior GP in each of the surgeries in his constituency to ask for their views on the threats currently faced by GPs and family doctors services.

David said:

'I attach the highest importance to local family doctors services and I take their views extremely seriously. 'Out of hours' is now getting to be a controversial subject locally. I have written to GPs today to ask for their opinion on the key challenges faced by local GP surgeries. From the letters I receive and the people I speak to I know just how important local GPs are to our communities and it is vital they are operating in the best interests of local people.

'GPs have been increasingly marginalised under this Government to the detriment of both patients and doctors. The Conservative Opposition are determined to restore their vital status. That is why I want the views of the GPs working in Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Needham Market on how we can make this possible under the next Conservative Government.'
