Ruffley Launches Petition for Speed Cameras on Black Spot Bend on A143 in Great Barton

Monday, 19 January, 2004

David Ruffley will launch a petition with the Great Barton Parish Council Chairman calling for speed cameras to be installed on the A143 in Great Barton following the very recent serious road traffic accident and the increasing concern of local residents.

The petition calls for cameras at both the approaches to the sharp bend near the A143/Thurston Road/Brand Road crossroads in Great Barton.

David's initiative follows consultation with Great Barton Parish Council Chairman, Mr Derek Firth, and representations from local residents along the A143.

David said: 'My constituents in Great Barton- especially those who live on the A143- are becoming increasingly concerned about the speed of traffic along the main road through the village. Although Suffolk County Council have proposed some safety measures- such as

'SLOW DOWN' signs which are activated by speeding motorists- residents do not feel that these go far enough to improve safety on this stretch of road.

The petition will be launched on Friday, 23 January at 2.15 p.m. at the junction of the A143/Thurston Road/Brand Road.
