David Ruffley MP will be meeting with the Chief Executive of the St Nicholas' Hospice, Ron Overton, on Friday 19 January at 1.30pm to receive an update on developments at the Hospice and its funding needs.
The St Nicholas' Hospice serves a population of 250,000 in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area. As a registered charity, it meets the needs of the people with active progressive disease, where life expectancy is uncertain and for whom the focus of care is the quality of life. Its services extend to the needs of partners, families and other carers before and after a patient's death.
David said:
'The St Nicholas' Hospice provides palliative care for patients and their families who are living with terminal illnesses such as cancer. This care can be provided to the end of life, in the Hospice, in local hospitals and at home.
'This service entirely free to all who need their help but they can only do this with the support of our local community and the NHS.
'I hope that during my visit I will learn more about the valuable work the Hospice does in our community and what more can be done to support them in this incredibly worthwhile cause.'
