Ruffley to open new St Benedict's School cycle shelter

Monday, 10 December, 2007

David Ruffley MP will be opening St Benedict's Catholic School's new cycle shelter on Friday 14 December at 11am.

One of the School's long term transport objectives was to offer improved facilities for cycling to school.

St Benedict's were successful in obtaining a grant for their travel plan and further funding from Sustrans. This has enabled the school to provide cycle storage which will accommodate 40 cycles.

David said:

'This is exactly the sort of 'green' initiative that local schools should be pursuing and it is a credit to everyone involved at St Benedict's that they were so successful in funding their transport plan.

'Climate change is at the top of the agenda both locally and nationally and it is initiatives like this that will get people out of cars and onto their bikes.

'It is short car journeys, such as the school run, that are the most inefficient and this new cycle store will encourage more pupils at the school to cycle to school.'
