David Ruffley MP presented his 'Local Hero', Mrs Joan Fry, with her certificate at a tea party in Members' Dining Room at the House of Commons on Tuesday, 24 June.

A photograph of David with Joan Fry is attached.

Joan Fry lives in Woolpit and was nominated as the Local Hero in David's Bury St Edmunds constituency.

The award, a national scheme which celebrates older volunteers' achievements, is organised by The Experience Corps and the House of Commons All Party Parliamentary Group on the Community and Voluntary Sector.

Joan Fry has been a volunteer with Mid Suffolk Axis for nearly twenty years but has also been an active volunteer and fundraiser for well over forty years, supporting people with disabilities.

David said: 'Joan Fry is a shining example to us all. At the age of 85 she is still an extremely active volunteer. She is twice as active as some people half her age!

'I was delighted to present Joan with her award at Westminster and hear about her voluntary work for Mid Suffolk Axis. I thank her for all she is doing for disabled people in the community.'
