Ruffley to receive Havebury affordable housing briefing and tour schemes intended to reduce antisocial behaviour

Monday, 29 June, 2009

David Ruffley MP will be receiving a series of briefings from Havebury Housing Partnership and touring some of their schemes in Bury St Edmunds on Friday 3 July 2009.

David's day will begin with a briefing on new affordable housing provision in the area. Later in the day David will tour the Mildenhall Estate, along with Havebury Chief Executive Steve Cook, members of the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) and local residents. The tour will focus on schemes which reduce or prevent antisocial behaviour.

Finally, at 11.45am David will be launching Havebury's Corporate Social Responsibility Report.

David said:

'There is a desperate need for more affordable housing across the country and this problem is no less acute here in Bury St Edmunds. As Member of Parliament I am often in contact with constituents struggling to make that first step onto the housing ladder.

'It is, therefore, with great interest that I will be receiving a briefing on new affordable housing provision on Friday. It is of the utmost importance that local people are able to find homes in the communities they want to live in and not find themselves forced to live elsewhere simply because housing is cheaper there.

'Following the briefing I will be touring some of Havebury's schemes in Bury St Edmunds. While on the tour I will be seeing at first hand some of the activities that have been used to reduce and prevent antisocial behaviour. As Shadow Minister for Police Reform I am very aware of the blight of antisocial behaviour and how it can ruin the quality of life in otherwise peaceful communities. These problems must be tackled and I am pleased that the SNT and Havebury are being so proactive.'
