David Ruffley MP for Bury St Edmunds has signed a House of Commons motion that calls for the Government to ensue that 5000 mainly elderly patient affected by age related macular degeneration receive the best available treatment.
David Ruffley said "I have received a number of letters from constituents and from the West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind who are concerned about the Government's decision to support the National Institute for Clinical Excellence's (NICE) decision to put up barriers to the treatment of this terrible illness. As a patron of the West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind and having been contacted by a number of other charities, I am extremely concerned that treatment which could save many from going blind will only be available to the wealthy over the next few years due to NICE rationing. Decency demands that the Government acts on this immediately."
