David Ruffley has been invited by Elizabeth Stowell, the organiser of the Moreton Hall branch of the Women's Institute, to speak to their members on Wednesday, 1 September at 8.30 p.m. in the Moreton Hall Community Centre.
WI members have put forward three questions that they have asked David to address in his speech:
1.Why does 'common sense' appear to be lacking in government at all levels?
2.How do we reintroduce a sense of personal responsibility into our society?
3.Many people consider that a stable family life is a major contributing factor to a civilized society. Would you agree and will present trends ever be reversed?
On international issues, their main concern is the continuing situation in Darfur, in particular the Sudanese Government's lack of action.
David said: 'This is a strictly non-party political meeting and I will be talking about moral and third world issues of our day. By raising these questions, I think the WI members show what a caring and compassionate community we have in Moreton Hall.'
In addition, WI members also wish to raise local issues at the meeting including the future of the New Moreton Hall Playgroup, the redevelopment of the Cattle Market in Bury St Edmunds and the organisation of the Moreton Hall Community Association.
