Ruffley supports Haughley Post Office opening and congratulates everyone involved in making this happen

David Ruffley MP will attend the official opening of the new Haughley Post Office at 10.20am on Friday 12 June by the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

Haughley Post Office has re-opened thanks to the generous bequest by Maxwell Charnley of £500,000 to Haughley Parochial Church Council which used the money to buy the Post Office premises after the retirement of the previous sub-postmistress, Maureen Edwards.

The new sub-postmistress is Mrs Heather Pugh who ran Crown Street Post Office in Stowmarket until it was axed last year by Post Office Ltd as part of their Network Change programme.

David said: 'I am absolutely delighted that Haughley Post Office has re-opened and that Heather Pugh is the new sub-postmistress.

'I congratulate everyone involved in this project and would especially like to thank Haughley Parochial Church Council for their generosity in using the Maxwell Charnley bequest to buy and refurbish the premises.

'It is wonderful to have a Post Office good news story after all the closures over the past year. I have campaigned long and hard on behalf of post offices in my constituency so it is great to see a village post office re-opening.

'I am particularly pleased that Heather Pugh will be running Haughley Post Office. Heather was an excellent and very popular postmistress at Crown Street Post Office in Stowmarket and it was devastating for her and all her customers when it closed after our hard fought campaign to save it. I have no doubt that Heather will do an excellent job at Haughley Post Office and I wish her every success.'
