Monday, 19 March, 2007

David Ruffley MP will be attending a top level meeting to discuss the future of the bus service in Bury St Edmunds on Friday 23 March between 2.00pm and 3.00pm.

The meeting will include verbal reports on the state of the town's bus service from representatives of First Eastern Counties buses, Suffolk County Council, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Bury St Edmunds Town Council as well as a discussion of a future action plan for the town.

David said:

'This is a key period for Bury St Edmunds- construction work has just begun on the new Cattle Market development and we need to ensure that we have a public transport system to support this development as well as deal with any disruption caused while it is built.

'I look forward to listening to the valuable contributions of Suffolk County Council, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Bury St Edmunds Town Council and giving my thoughts on the direction that First Eastern Counties need to take in our town.

'There have been problems with the bus service in the town in the past and I will continue to do my utmost to ensure that Bury St Edmunds has the public transport that its residents and businesses deserve.'
