Ruffley urges local people to participate in St Edmundsbury Core Strategy Consultation

David Ruffley MP has urged local people to participate in the consultation on St Edmundsbury's Core Strategy document.

The Core Strategy, which forms part of the Local Development Framework, will shape the face of St Edmundsbury until 2031. The document sets out policies relating to housing and infrastructure needs in the borough. Most importantly, it identifies the key directions of growth around Bury St Edmunds.

David said:

'This is an incredibly important document and sensibly St Edmundsbury have chose to consult on it for 8 weeks instead of the statutory minimum of 6 weeks. This should give everyone in our area the chance to respond.

'The Core Strategy will shape the face of St Edmundsbury for the next 20 years and it is imperative that everyone who wants to do so has their say during this consultation process.

'The need for new housing is clear but it is essential that it is built in the most suitable locations. I am determined that any new housing delivers the required infrastructure before it is completed. We must not be left with the situation we now have on Moreton Hall where, several years on, we are still waiting for the relief road linking the estate to the Rookery junction of the A14.

'Each of the five directions of growth around Bury St Edmunds is detailed and the opportunities and hurdles that this may present are identified. If anyone believes these statements to be unsound they should ensure they play their part in the consultation.

'The consultation documents contain clear instructions on how to participate and it is important to follow these if a representation is to be considered. For further information local people should visit http://www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk. The document can also be viewed at council offices and local libraries."
