Ruffley welcomes decision on Stowmarket relief road

Tuesday, 4 December, 2007

Following the MP for Stowmarket's continuous lobbying for five years, David Ruffley MP has welcomed the decision by the Rt Hon Rosie Winterton MP, Minister of State at the Department for Transport, to approve £12 million of government funding for the B1115 Stowmarket Relief Road.

David said:

'After five years of lobbying for the Stowmarket Relief Road I'm absolutely delighted that it will now finally go ahead. We have waited a long time for this moment but today's announcement is excellent news for Stowmarket drivers and pedestrians. The road will ease congestion throughout the town and reduce journey times for my constituents.

'I have lobbied hard for this road scheme from the outset in the face of Government dithering. It has suffered from many delays along the way. Earlier this year I intervened with the Minister to lobby for a speedy decision. Now that the Minister has finally given her approval, I look forward to seeing construction of the road commence.'
