David Ruffley yesterday welcomed a group of 100 pupils and staff from Needham Market Middle School to the House of Commons.
Following a tour of the Palace of Westminster, including both the House of Commons and House of Lords, the pupils met David in the Grand Committee Room in Westminster Hall, the room that is also used as a second debating chamber for MPs.
David spoke to the pupils about his work as a Member of Parliament and how they can become involved in the democratic process. The pupils had been learning about the work of Parliament as part of their citizenship syllabus so visiting Westminster enabled them to put their knowledge into context. A lively question and answer session followed.
David said: 'This is the largest group I have ever welcomed to Westminster. I was delighted by the enthusiasm and interest shown by the children. They were a credit to the school in every way. The visit was such a success that the school has asked to come again next year.'
