Ruffley's survey reveals poor digital television reception in Suffolk

Tuesday, 30 June, 2009

David Ruffley MP has this week released details of the results of an online survey he has conducted into the quality of the digital television signal in his constituency.

The analogue television signal in East Anglia is due to be switched off in 2011 and David's survey reveals that only 47 percent of local respondents receive a satisfactory digital signal.

David said:

'The date on which the analogue signal in our part of Suffolk will be switched off is fast approaching. I conducted this survey to establish which pockets of my constituency were still unable to receive a satisfactory digital signal and the results have been startling.

'42 percent of those who responded to my survey cannot receive a good quality digital signal and a further 11 percent can't receive one at all. Although these results are not entirely scientific, the fact that less than half of those people who completed my survey can get a decent signal suggest there is a problem.

'The analogue signal will start to be switched off in East Anglia in 2011 and I do not want to see local people forced into subscribing to expensive satellite based alternatives in order to carry on watching their favourite programmes.

'Therefore, I have today taken the matter up with the Lord Mandelson, the Government's Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills, and asked him for his assurance that this situation will be addressed before the digital switchover in East Anglia.'
