David Ruffley MP will be visiting Tesco in Bury St Edmunds on Friday 6 October to see at first hand the vast number of customers taking part in their Green Clubcard Points scheme.
Tesco is offering customers 1 Green Clubcard Point for each carrier bag they
re-use when doing their shopping.
Between 14 August and 19 September Tesco gave out £26,815,614 worth of Green Club Card Points.
So far in the Bury St Edmunds store 50,000 carrier bags have been reused.
David will be discussing the initiative with staff and customers and is keen to encourage a scheme that not only provides savings for consumers but also helps our environment.
David said:
'As a proud Tesco Clubcard holder I am delighted to support this initiative.
'Dealing with green issues responsibly is one of the biggest challenges facing us today.
'Tesco have shown they are committed to meeting this challenge head on, by not only reducing the vast amount of carrier bags that are produced but also passing on savings to their customers.
'The people of Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk take their environmental responsibilities very seriously. St Edmundsbury Borough Council is the number one recycling authority in the country and that could never have been achieved without the support of local residents.
'I have every confidence that the Bury St Edmunds branch of Tesco will be one of the top recycling stores in the country when local people see the benefits of this valuable scheme.
'We are all in this together and each of us must play our part if we are to go on and address the environmental issues that are so important to our future.
