Solicitors branch out

Friday, 30 January, 2009

Redundancy and divorce- January is proving a busy time for a firm of solicitors which has opened a new branch in Bury St Edmunds.

Lloyd and Co, on Angel Hill, which officially opened on Friday, is offering free initial advice on employment and matrimony as post-Christmas is traditionally a busy time of year for divorce.

Bury MP David Ruffley, himself a solicitor having previously practised in business law, and St Edmundsbury Mayor Bob Cockle officially opened the branch. As well as employment and matrimony, the firm also specialises in probate and conveyancing.

"All human life is dealt with in this office and it is tremendously encouraging to see so many professional people actually investing in the town and investing in things that matter to ordinary people," Mr Ruffley said.

The firm, which has a branch in Thetford and an attendance centre in Cambridge, has been in business for 25 years. The opening of the Bury branch marked a return to the town for senior partner Patricia Lloyd.

"I live here and went to school here and trained here, so it's like coming home," she said.
