Volunteer Values: Ruffley Visits Victim Support in Bury St Edmunds

Tuesday, 11 November, 2003

David Ruffley is visiting the Bury St Edmunds office of Victim Support Suffolk on their 'Focus Day' on Friday, 14 November at 2.45 p.m. to raise awareness of the services they offer to his constituents. Their office is situated in the Risbygate Centre, 90 Risbygate Street. He will meet Mrs Maxine Kasicki, the Branch Chairman, Mrs Sue Thomson, the Branch Co-ordinator and volunteers.

Victim Support Suffolk helps Suffolk residents cope with the effects of crime. They do this by providing confidential support and information to victims of crime and to witnesses attending local courts. Their services are free, independent of the police and courts, and available to everyone, whether or not the crime has been reported and regardless of when it happened.

David said: 'Victims of crime who have no one to turn to for support benefit greatly from the help and assistance given by Victim Support counsellors. The stress and anxiety so often caused as a result of crime can be alleviated by the emotional and practical support Victim Support offers. The organisation relies on volunteers to keep the service going so I would encourage anyone who might be able to offer their time to contact Mrs Sue Thomson in the Bury St Edmunds Victim Support office on 01284 717188.'
