David Ruffley received news today that the Planning Inspector has dismissed the appeal by Hutchinson 3G against refusal of planning permission to install a mobile phone mast on top of the BT Telephone Exchange building in Whiting Street.
David said: 'I am delighted that the Planning Inspector has backed the decision by St Edmundsbury Borough Council to reject a mast on this site. It is a victory for common sense. A mast here would have been quite out of character in the historic core zone of our town. Local councillor, Paul Farmer, and I have consistently opposed a mast on this site. I know our views are shared by a very large number of residents in the Whiting Street area. After two unsuccessful appeals by Hutchinson 3G I hope this will now be the end of the matter.'
