On 28 May David Ruffley will open Rougham village Fete at 1pm.

Mr Ruffley said: 'I think that village fetes are a fantastic way to unite a community. And I will be saying a few words to the crowd on Saturday to reiterate this point. Rougham is a rural spread out parish and it is events like this which engender a feeling of togetherness amongst the community, which is exactly what the Government's idea of the Big Society is all about.

I am looking forward to looking around the stalls and meeting local villagers. '

David Ruffley and other Suffolk MPs had a preliminary meeting in the House of Commons on 23 May with the new Leader of Suffolk County Council, County Councillor Mark Bee. Mr Bee briefed Suffolk MPs on how he wanted to take the County forward.

Speaking after the meeting David Ruffley said: 'There has been a bit of controversy surrounding the County Council recently. Sometimes sensible things that were being done for Suffolk tax payers were not always explained as well as they could have been.

David Ruffley MP has written to the secretary of Statefor Justice Jonathan Djanogly about the rates of repossession in hisconstituency of Bury St Edmunds. The answer he received shows that there hasbeen sharp decrease in the amount of mortgage repossessions, repossessions ofprivate property, and landlord repossessions, evictions from rented accommodation,in Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk from the period of 2009-2010.

On Thursday 21 April David Ruffley MP will be meeting a crowd of concerned Needham Market residents to receive a petition to save the local Library.

Mr Ruffley said, 'I feel very strongly about the proposed closure of local libraries and it is apparent from the number of letters and emails I have received over the last few months that my constituents share my concerns.

David Ruffley MP has been invited by Mr Chris Knock to visit the newly restored Punch Bowl Community Inn and say a few words on Easter Monday at 12 noon.

Mr Ruffley said; 'The Punch Bowl Community Inn is a classic example of Suffolk's Big Society. After nearly two years of closure I am thrilled to see that this much loved Inn will be reopening to the public. In these hard economic times it is great to see that community spirit is alive and well in our villages.

David Ruffley MP spent his Good Friday as a member of the crowd in this year's Passion Play.

This year the play took to the streets and paraded from St Edmundsbury Cathedral- where the Last Supper was enacted to the Apex building, where the trial was enacted.

On 7 May at 11.30am David Ruffley MP has been asked to open the Bury St Edmunds Croquet Clubhouse on the Victory Sports Ground in Bury St Edmunds.

Mr Ruffley said: 'I am looking forward to meeting all the members of the Croquet Club this Saturday, cutting the ribbon and even trying my hand at shooting a few hoops.

I think it is extremely important that clubs such as this are supported in order to maintain traditional recreational pursuits such as Croquet. I encourage my constituents to get active and join a sports club.'
