The Campaign to Introduce Broadband to the Whole of Suffolk

I believe that it is unacceptable that the East of England is one of the most poorly served areas in the country for broadband access. This hits businesses, economic development and opportunities for people of all ages. As broadband continues to roll out across the country, many rural towns and villages are being left behind. Currently only 5% of those living in rural communities have access. This significant problem must be addressed urgently.
I support organisations in Suffolk such as the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), the Country Land and Business Association, 01359broadband.co.uk and demandbroadband.com which are working to ensure that broadband is made available to more businesses, more communities and more public buildings. BT is currently offering to upgrade local exchanges to offer broadband but only if there is enough demand. BT has set trigger levels at many exchanges. I am very pleased that Elswell has now reached its trigger level. The Pakenham exchange has been set a trigger level of 400 registrations, registered residents are over half way to reaching this target. It is, therefore, vital that businesses and groups throughout Suffolk communities join together to prove that there is a significant demand for broadband in the region thus encouraging BT and other service providers to upgrade local level exchanges.
I would urge any constituent to register their interest on the broadband websites listed below:
