Ruffley Campaigns to Save Stowmarket Water Meadows

David Ruffley attended a site meeting at the water meadows between Cardinalls Road and Newton Road, Stowmarket last Saturday, 26 June. A large group of local residents turned out to present a petition of over 200 local names and bags of letters to Mid Suffolk District Council opposing development on this site.

David is sending the petition and letters to David Ellis, Head of Planning at Mid Suffolk District Council.

David said: “I share residents’ concerns about development on this site. There is a very real fear of homes being flooded if building goes ahead. It will also destroy the natural habitat of the meadows which is home to many species of wildlife. I urge the Council to reject this planning application.”

David's letter to Mid Suffolk:

I enclose a petition and a larger number of letters opposing the above planning application which were presented to me by local residents at a site meeting I held on the water meadow in Stowmarket last Saturday.

Local residents are extremely concerned that housing development on this site will lead to flooding of their homes. They believe their local knowledge of historical flooding in this area is being ignored. They are also concerned about the destruction of the wildlife on the water meadow if building goes ahead.

I share my constituents’ opposition to any development on this site. I was amazed by the number of letters and petition signatures presented to me last Saturday which demonstrates just how strongly local residents feel about this application.

I should be grateful if you could ensure that the letters and petition are added to the file and presented to the Planning Committee.
