New House of Commons Honour for Bury St Edmunds MP - Ruffley becomes Her Majesty's Opposition Treasury Whip

It was announced today that David Ruffley MP has been promoted to the key position of Her Majesty’s Opposition Treasury Whip. After only six months as one of Her Majesty’s Opposition Whips in the House of Commons, Mr Ruffley has been promoted to this senior job. Whips are the senior party managers in the House of Commons responsible for managing and negotiating Bills with Government Ministers and the Speaker of the House of Commons.

David Ruffley said: “I am delighted to have received this promotion, especially as it is in my sphere of interest – taxation and the funding of our great public services. Government and Opposition Whips have responsibility for ensuring our laws are scrutinised and debated thoroughly. It is a duty I take seriously and I am delighted to be doing it in this senior post.”
