Police chiefs' decision to host a gay pride flag over Suffolk stations has been questioned by MPs.

The rainbow flag- celebrating Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) history month- has been raised over stations in Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds, as well as Suffolk County Council offices, in Ipswich.

But Tim Yeo, MP for South Suffolk, said championing a particular cause was not the role people in Suffolk wanted the police to be doing.

Residents in the Churchgate area of Bury St Edmunds last night said they were looking forward to having Lord and Lady Tebbit as neighbours after it emerged the couple were looking to move into historic Churchgate House, in Churchgate Street.

An MP has raised concerns that CCTV in Bury St Edmunds' Cattle Market scheme may not be fully linked with town centre cameras.

David Ruffley, MP for Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket, wrote to police and council chiefs last month over fears that CCTV operators will not be able to control cameras on the new arc development.

Problems with the scheme's CCTV were first highlighted in November, when councillors delayed approving the cameras after raising questions about links between the two systems.

Criminals could escape justice because bosses at a multi-million pound shopping centre have installed their own security camera system rather than linking to an existing network, it was claimed last night.

David Ruffley, MP for Bury St Edmunds, and Suffolk police have criticised the Arc development in the town for having its own CCTV separate to that of St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

An angry MP is calling for clarity over delays to improve the A14 six months after sections slumped alarmingly and police connected its design to a serious road accident.

David Ruffley, MP for Bury St Edmunds, has demanded clear answers from roads bosses on two outstanding safety inquiries on the A14 relating to subsidence and aquaplaning.

He said road users were 'still in the dark' over issues relating to sinking road surfaces and potentially dangerous puddles on the £12million Rookery Crossroads stretch at Rougham near Bury which opened in 2006.

CAMPAIGNERS last night praised a Suffolk council after it emerged finance chiefs were planning to freeze next year's council tax.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council is the first authority in the county to declare it has planned a 0% rise for 2009.

Last night its leaders and campaign groups urged other councils in the area to try and follow suit.

Although St Edmundsbury's share of the overall council tax accounts for a small part of residents' overall bill, the move was welcomed by Protest Against Council Tax in Suffolk (PACTS).
