David Ruffley made a guest appearance on Radio West Suffolk this evening.

Radio West Suffolk is a volunteer-run radio station which broadcasts to patients at West Suffolk Hospital as well as locally on 1350AM and worldwide on the internet.

David said:

'I have long been a supporter of Radio West Suffolk. They provide an invaluable service to West Suffolk Hospital patients and the local area, it was a real pleasure to drop in and discuss the general election campaign.'

David Ruffley MP questioned the Minister of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs- James Paice MP- in the House of Commons about what the government was doing to help the industry diversify into biofuel production.

Mr Ruffley said that the 'greater use of biofuels in this country will not only cut CO2 emissions, but give a vital boost to East Anglian sugar beet growers.'

David Ruffley, the MP for Bury St Edmunds is leading the campaign to save the British pub in Suffolk. Latest figures show they are currently closing nationwide at a rate of 39 a week.

British Pub Week, which is taking place from 30th of October until the 6th of November, is aimed at encouraging people to celebrate the great British pub and to see and experience everything that it has to offer.

Mr Ruffley stated that the UK already has 'one of the best maternity rights regimes in Europe' and that the proposal to raise maternity pay even higher 'would be unaffordable for the British taxpayer and for small and medium-sized businesses.' Mr Ruffley's call to repatriate employment and social legislation back to the UK roused cheers from his colleagues as well as support from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Maria Miller MP to whom he asked the question. She described the measures as 'highly regressive' and said that the Governmentdid not support them.

Bury St Edmunds MP, David Ruffley, praised West Suffolk College in the House of Commons on Thursday 14th October, for their commitment to adult learning and the advantage that this has to the voluntary sector in the UK.

Directing his question at the Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, Mr John Hayes MP, Mr Ruffley asked the Minister if he was seeking to charge adult students more fees ('co-payment' in the jargon).

Mr Hayes stated that he was not able to answer the question due to the pending comprehensive spending review.
