Following a spate of distraction burglaries in West Suffolk, David Ruffley MP, the Shadow Minister for Police Reform, has urged local people, especially the elderly, to be very cautious over whom they let into their homes.

The most common trap that local residents fall into is a claim that the visitor is from the 'water board' and urgently needs to gain access to a property because of problems with supply. While they are distracted another person enters the home and goes to the most common places used to store pensions or savings.

David Ruffley MP has today written to Carole Taylor-Brown, Chief Executive of Suffolk Primary Care Trust (PCT), asking that she release details of areas being considered for polyclinics in Suffolk.

A polyclinic is a large 'super surgery' which involves closing small local GP practices and moving their services into one central unit.

David Ruffley MP will present his Woolpit constituent, Mrs Joan Fry, with her award as a 'Local Hero' at the MPs' Heroes' Tea Party official award ceremony at the House of Commons on Tuesday, 24 June.

The award, a national scheme which celebrates older volunteers' achievements, is organised by The Experience Corps and the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Community and Voluntary Sector.

David Ruffley MP will be one of the key speakers at the London rally to be held on Thursday 19 June- the day the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) consultation closes.

The event, organised by Airport Watch to protest against the air traffic proposals, will bring together campaigners from throughout the Eastern Region.

Campaigners will assemble near the southern end of Waterloo Bridge on the west side of the bridge near the National Film Theatre.

David Ruffley MP has announced that he will be launching a 'plastic bag free' day in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday 10 May 2008.

David has teamed up with St Edmundsbury Borough Councillor for Abbeygate Ward, Richard Rout, to encourage retailers to use fewer plastic bags and encourage members of the public to use reusable bags.

David and Richard have ordered 500 reusable 'Green Bags' and will be distributing these for free in the Cornhill Walk Shopping Centre on Saturday 10 May between 9.30 and 10.30am.

David Ruffley MP will be a guest speaker at the launch of the Museum of East Anglian Life's (MEAL) fund raising appeal this Friday between 11am and 3pm.

The launch of the MEAL Appeal will take place at an event to be staged in the Abbots Hall and its grounds.

David Ruffley will attend the Crown Street Post Office public meeting on Friday, 16 May at 6.30pm at the Resource Centre in Crown Street, Stowmarket.

The meeting is organised by Stowmarket residents in partnership with Stowmarket Town Council and Mid Suffolk District Council. It will be attended by Gary Grange, Senior External Relations Manager at Post Office Ltd, and Laura Tarling, Post Office Network Development Manager. A representative of Postwatch will also be present.

David Ruffley MP will be attending Culford School's Speech Day on Saturday 17 May.

The name of Culford School became established in 1935 when the East Anglian School for Boys outgrew its original site in Bury St Edmunds and moved to Culford. The 480-acre estate has provided a remarkable location for the educational changes of the next 65 years. In 1972 Culford amalgamated with its sister school, the East Anglian School for Girls, and became one of the pioneering co-educational boarding and day schools in the country.
