David Ruffley MP took his concerns about the threat of council charges for Jubilee street parties to Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, in the House of Commons on Monday 12 March 2012.

David Ruffley MP said: 'I am concerned that Suffolk County Council Officers are giving incorrect advice about street parties to the public. I took this issue directly to the Minister responsible to make sure that there is absolute clarity, and so that my constituents can start planning their Diamond Jubilee celebrations.'

David Ruffley MP will be visiting three schools - Howard Middle, Howard Primary and Hardwick Middle School - from 9.30am on Friday 23 March.

David Ruffley MP said: 'I will be meeting with head teachers from Bury St Edmunds, a primary and two middle schools, to ensure that the transition to two tier is a smooth as possible.

The overwhelming majority of head teachers in the town are committed to a move to two tier as the best way of ensuring that Suffolk's school system improves.

David Ruffley MP will be chairing a meeting with the Howard Estate Residents and Tenants Association to address concerns about the plans to build 5,000 new homes around Bury St Edmunds at 6.45pm on Friday 23 March at Howard Middle School. County Councillor Mark Ereira-Guyer will also attend.

David Ruffley MP said: ' I am very concerned that unless we act now we could, in 30 years' time, see the Fornhams, Rougham, Thurston, Westley and Great Barton all becoming mere suburbs of the town of Bury St Edmunds.

'Mr David Ruffley (Bury St Edmunds) (Con): Bury St Edmunds is an unspoilt county market town, and its residents want to keep it that way. Will the Minister tell me whether neighbourhood plans can be used to block unwanted development?

The Government has put £530million into Better Broadband nationally- it is a priority for the Government. Suffolk has an allocation of some £11.68m from the Government.

I will be meeting Station Commander Colonel Neale Moss to discuss life and issues on the Station and will then make a tour. There will be an opportunity to visit the Welfare Centre to see the support services for dependants of servicemen and servicewomen on base.
